Villa Cipressi in Varenna: beautiful villa and gardens on Lake Como
Visit the botanic garden of Varenna’s Villa Cipressi, a historical residence located in the most suggestive and romantic spot on Lake Como.
Villa Cipressi is a majestic complex of buildings and gardens built between 1400 and 1800. The villa represents a perfect and harmonious combination of the old and the modern, made possible by a careful restorative work that kept the pre-existent architectural lines.
Originally part of the Serponti family’s patrimony, the building later passed to different illustrious owners, such as Baron Isimbardi, who at the beginning of the nineteenth century founded there a laboratory of the Milan Mint, of which he was the director; later to the Andreossi family, to Sir Sulton, to the English Astleys and, finally, to the Accame family.
In 1980 it was acquired by the people of Varenna by a public and voluntary petition to be destined to public use. Now it is a property of the Municipality of Varenna and is a renowned hotel and restaurant. It is the town’s seat for civil wedding rites and every year hosts dozens of weddings of couples from all over the world.
The terraced lakefront garden is open to the public with an entrance fee (special ticket available Villa Monastero + Villa Cipressi).
The garden opens every day from 9 am to 7 pm. The garden is closed during private events or for garden maintenance activities.
The visit is allowed in compliance with the rules of hygiene and social distancing in force during the health emergency from Covid-19.
