Fiori Narrati. Illustratori dell’Art Nouveau in dialogo con Villa Bernasconi
Multisensory tour of the Villa Bernasconi museum in Cernobbio
MONDAY 1 JUNE – SUNDAY 20 SEPTEMBER 2020
Until 20 September 2020, the multisensory tour of the Villa Bernasconi museum in Cernobbio will be enriched with works by some of the best known painters and illustrators of Art Nouveau.
Coming from the collection of the Arte Nova Foundation, the large and rare lithograph on canvas by Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) called “Les fleurs”, made for Home Decor in 1898, will enhance the spaces of the villa together with lithographs by Elisabeth Sonrel (1874- 1953) and Paul Berthon (1872-1909), – as well as other works by Mucha himself – from the private collection of Rodolfo Caglia, in an installation curated by Elena Franco, artistic director of the Arte Nova Foundation.
A wonderful inlaid lectern from the 1920s also belongs to the foundation’s collection, with a stylized woman figure, in dialogue with a sitting room by Eugenio Quarti, in the music room on the ground floor of Villa Bernasconi.
The floral theme that accompanies the women portrayed by these illustrators completes the atmosphere of the “villa that speaks”, telling us how the feminine beauty and that of nature were, at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, not only pure decoration but also the dream of a universe of elegance and harmony to be found within the home.
Access is allowed only with compulsory online booking. The following security provisions are mandatory for access: interpersonal distance of 1 meter, mask and hand wash at the entrance and for the use of interactive installations, mandatory visit path.
