Villa Cipressi in Varenna: A Splendid Villa and Garden on Lake Como
During your visit to Varenna, explore the botanical garden of Villa Cipressi, a historic residence situated in the most picturesque and romantic location on Lake Como.
Villa Cipressi is a magnificent complex of buildings and gardens, designed and constructed between the 15th and 19th centuries. The Villa today represents a perfect and harmonious blend of antiquity and modern functionality, made possible by meticulous restoration that has preserved the original architectural lines.
Originally part of the Serponti family estate, the property subsequently passed into the hands of various prestigious figures, including Baron Isimbardi, who established a workshop of the Milan Mint there in the early 19th century, of which he was Director; the Andreossi family, Sir Sulton, the English Astley family, and finally the Accame family.
In 1980, it was purchased by the residents of Varenna through a public and voluntary subscription to be designated for public use. Currently owned by the Municipality of Varenna, it now operates as a renowned hotel and restaurant. Serving as the municipal venue for civil wedding ceremonies, it hosts dozens of weddings each year for couples from around the world.
