Villa Carlotta

Azalea gardens and art exhibitions in Tremezzo

The villa, the staircase, and the panoramic garden were built by the Clerici family at the end of the 1600s. It later became the property of Count Sommariva, who partially modified the style to neoclassical. After that, the property passed to Princess Marianne of the Netherlands, who gave it to her daughter Charlotte, from whom it takes its name, as a wedding gift.

Inside, it houses a museum that contains statues, paintings, and furniture from the neoclassical period, including works by Canova and Francesco Hayez. The artistic beauties of the villa are accompanied by the magnificence of the gardens, where you can admire trees and plants from all parts of the globe: rare types of palms, camellias in incredible colors, tropical plants, centuries-old conifers, and bamboo collections.

The wonder of the garden blooms in spring, however, with the flowering of the azaleas.
From the terraces and gardens of the villa, you can admire a breathtaking view of Lake Como, extending your gaze toward Bellagio, the Grigne mountains, and Mount Legnone.
The opening period runs from March to October.
