Spina Verde

Nature's Green Embrace of the City of Como

The Spina Verde Regional Park extends across the hilly area northwest of Como. The territory, rich in preserved and protected nature, offers opportunities for excursions not only in the hills, but also to discover the archaeological remains of prehistoric Como.

The itineraries are in fact connected to Baradello Castle, which from its height controls and protects the entire territory of the city of the Lake. Not only ancient history: the Spina Verde Regional Park also offers the opportunity to discover the trenches of Sasso di Cavallasca. Also included in the archaeological routes are the numerous remains of places of worship, traceable to ancient pre-Roman and Roman rites, as well as more recent enchanting sanctuaries, such as the Basilicas of S. Carpoforo and S. Abbondio.

The Park is crossed by 13 hiking itineraries: the difficulty level is low, so an excursion on these heights is recommended for families and young trekkers. Children can discover the park's nature through the numerous initiatives, workshops, and activities organized and scheduled by the Authority: all proposals aim to bring everyone closer to local history, environmental ethics, and to educate about the natural values of the protected area.
