Monte Barro: An Off-the-Beaten-Path Hike During Your Lake Como Vacation

Monte Barro, located near the city of Lecco, southwest of the Grigne mountains, is bordered by the eastern end of Lake Como, Lake Annone, Lake Garlate, and the Galbiate saddle. Like an island in the green Brianza region, it constitutes a true outpost of the Lombard Prealps toward the Po Valley. The area is one of the main regional parks in the territory, with an invaluable wealth of flora and fauna.

Easily accessible by car or public transport from all its slopes, Monte Barro offers countless opportunities for trekking enthusiasts. Simple trails of varying difficulty in terms of elevation gain, length, and duration, or true itineraries ideal for discovering the park's natural, historical, and geological features.

The Hermitage of Monte Barro, owned by the park of the same name, is a privileged place to discover the history, archaeology, and landscape of the territory at the gates of Lecco and Lake Como.
The Hermitage is located at the most extensive Gothic-era settlement found in Italy, dating back to the 5th-6th century AD. Its history evokes Rome, Gothic invasions, medieval and Renaissance duchies and convents, until it became a sanatorium until the mid-20th century.

The centrality of its location makes it an ideal venue for stays, excursions, educational activities, residential courses, business meetings, and conferences. The Hermitage houses the Archaeological Museum of Barro, the environmental education laboratory, and the archaeology laboratory. Also at the Hermitage is the Monte Barro Park Hostel, with 48 beds.
Monte Barro is a place of culture, nature, and sport: here it is possible to take numerous excursions to discover the treasures preserved by this wild mountain.

Indeed, it preserves some places of extraordinary uniqueness whose scenic beauty can be discovered and savored. It is crossed by trekking trails that lead to the summit or toward the medieval remains scattered on its slopes. Within the Monte Barro Park territory is the Cliff of Camporeso, with hundreds of equipped routes.
