Lecco Rock City

Climbing walls around Lecco for your active holiday

Lecco and its two souls: the quiet, peaceful side of a lakeside city and the more sporty, adrenaline-fueled side—we might even call it rock—which has earned it the title of "city of mountains and mountaineers."

Since the early 1900s, the walls of the Grigne, Resegone, San Martino, and Valsassina have served as a true training ground for climbers from Lecco, Brianza, and Milan. Among them, the best have carried the region's name around the world, achieving sporting feats of immense value.

Since the early 1980s, the glorious local mountaineering tradition has been shaken by a new sporting phenomenon, capable of attracting a large number of practitioners and introducing a vast new audience to a passion for the mountains and climbing.

The cliffs found in the area, vertical rock walls at the valley floor, are indeed the ideal playground for this new discipline: sport climbing. While traditional climbing and the mountaineering of the past expressed the pure pursuit of adventure, sport climbing embodies the desire to discover the territory and its nature, ascending the wall using only the rock's features and not the anchors, which serve only as protection in the event of a fall.

The Lecco area boasts a significant heritage of natural cliffs equipped for sport climbing, often set in prestigious environmental and scenic contexts, with a wide variety of situations, rock types, and climbing styles.

In the Lecco area, there is a wall for every climber: there are lakeside cliffs and alpine settings, different types of rock to tackle, and climbing styles to suit every preference! Furthermore, most of them are easily reachable and accessible for much of the year. Discover the main cliffs of the region, recently renovated and ready to offer you unforgettable thrills, and plan your next challenge on Lake Como!
