Il Giardino della Valle
Giardino della Valle: a small oasis of peace nestled in greenery in Cernobbio
In Cernobbio, just a few meters from the road, a small oasis of peace nestled in greenery continues to amaze its visitors: this is the Giardino della Valle, created in the 1980s from an illegal landfill thanks to the tireless work of Ida Lonati Frati, a lovely lady who lived near the garden.
To access it, simply follow the signs in the city center: from there, in just a few minutes, visitors can reach Via Plinio where, in the bed of the Garrovo stream, this special place is located. There are no keys to enter the garden: simply push a small wooden gate, which is always open to visitors. Upon entering, one has the impression of stepping into an enchanted place, where the sound of the stream provides the backdrop to a wonderful botanical garden featuring one hundred and thirty different plant species, amidst small bridges, ponds, and curious wooden sculptures.
In the past, what is now a well-tended garden was known by locals as the Valle dei Rovi, and no one dared to venture onto that land, among scrap metal, enormous rats, snakes, and refuse of every kind...
