Greenway del Lario

Discover unexpected landscapes on Lake Como by foot

The Lake Como Greenway winds for over 10 km, with a route that passes partly just above the residential areas and partly along the lakefront. Along the Greenway, you can discover the various souls of this region: historic villages, rural vistas, lakeside landscapes, and prestigious buildings and gardens.
This is not an isolated path, but a route that follows and develops upon the existing network of connections. For this reason, it is possible to walk the entire length in a single excursion, or to join the path at various intersection points with the road network and public services, allowing for multiple excursions of different parts of the itinerary.

The walk along the Lake Como Greenway begins in Colonno: at the entrance to the village when coming from Como, take Via Cappella to the left and continue toward the historic center. Heading toward the lake, you pass a charming small square and the ancient bridge over the Pessetta stream before leaving the village.
The route continues toward Sala Comacina along the hillside path of the old Regina road, which crosses terraced plots and small olive groves, offering expansive views of Lake Como.
After this pleasant walk, you enter the village of Sala Comacina, arriving at the chapel of San Rocco. From here, take the mule track to enjoy a splendid view of the bay and the verdant Comacina Island.
Continue toward Ossuccio until you reach the Church of San Giacomo, dating between the 10th and 12th centuries, with its stunning sail bell tower; after taking a photo from the lakeside park toward Comacina Island, head back uphill, passing several small churches. Upon reaching Campo di Lenno, moving through alleys and descents to the lake that frame the colors of the Lario, you arrive at Villa Monastero. After this passage, you can take a detour toward Villa del Balbianello or continue toward Lenno.

Continuing along the lakefront, you pass wonderful historic villas, eventually reaching the Lenno ferry terminal and entering Tremezzo. From here, head back uphill toward Mezzegra. After a 10-minute climb, you reach a churchyard offering a splendid panorama of the lake and the Bellagio promontory. Then, continue on the downhill road to reach the 18th-century Palazzo Brentano. Cross the ancient core of Bonzanigo before emerging onto the road near Palazzo Rosati; descend again toward the lake. After the bridge over the Bolvedro stream, the descent toward the lake begins until it intersects with the main highway.

The final section of the Lake Como Greenway runs entirely along the lakefront on a protected path. Immediately after Bolvedro, continue toward Parco Olivelli. After leaving the park, pass under the portico of the "La Darsena" hotel and, still following the lake, pass the Tremezzo ferry terminal to reach the historic heart of Tremezzo with its characteristic porticos, bars, and shops. A short detour allows you to walk through the alleys and narrow streets of inner Tremezzo, returning to the Greenway just before the Grand Hotel Tremezzo and Villa Carlotta. The Lake Como Greenway route ends near the Lido.
