Adda Nord Park
It flows slowly southward, the escape route for Renzo and Lucia
The Park, extending over 7,000 hectares, encompasses the riverside territories of the Adda River along the section that crosses the upper plain, downstream from Lake Como, including the lakes of Garlate and Olginate. In this section, the river winds between steep banks, with a characteristic landscape featuring areas that are densely wooded in places. The most interesting natural area is in the territory of Brivio. The Adda is also mentioned by Manzoni as the backdrop for many events in the novel The Betrothed; for Renzo, a man on the run, the river was "the discovery of a friend, a brother, a savior." This highlights the importance, not only from a natural perspective but also historical and cultural, of this river for the entire territory.
Particularly significant are the archaeological and monumental aspects, with early 20th-century hydraulic engineering works such as Leonardo's locks, the Paderno bridge, and the workers' village of Crespi d'Adda. The Park's visitor centers are located in Paderno d'Adda and Olginate. Excursions can be undertaken either on foot or by bicycle: following the river's course by mountain bike is very pleasant, as the route is almost completely flat and closed to traffic. Equally picturesque is tackling the itinerary on horseback or directly on the river by canoe. If you wish to cross the river by boat, the Imbersago-Brivio landing is served by an electric vessel.
