5 Things to Do in Tremezzina

Visit the most famous destination on Lake Como!

Tremezzina is a town composed of many small villages; it is located on the western shore of Lake Como, facing Bellagio and Comacina Island. It is a beautiful town, thanks also to its famous villas, gardens, and enchanting views of the Lake and Comacina Island. The main attractions are Villa Carlotta and Villa Balbianello, but the entire area is rich in Romanesque churches and chapels. Tremezzina is easily accessible from Como and is close to Menaggio and the valley that leads toward Lugano and Switzerland.

Villa Balbianello
Villa del Balbianello is one of the most renowned villas in the world, a jewel of Lake Como. Set on a natural promontory, it was also the filming location for Star Wars Episode II Attack of the Clones. The terrace that extends delightfully toward the lake is the exact place where Anakin Skywalker gave his heart to his beloved Princess Padmé Amidala. At Villa Balbianello, the atmosphere is unique and magical, perfect for a romantic civil ceremony, embraced by family and friends.

Villa Carlotta
Villa Carlotta is ready to welcome you with its magnificent botanical park and its halls filled with art masterpieces. The villa, imposing yet understated, overlooking Lake Como from a privileged position, houses works of art of remarkable value, such as the precious masterpieces by Canova, Thorvaldsen, and Hayez. During your visit to the enchanting Villa Carlotta, let yourself be transported into a world of grace and elegance, among Italian gardens, incredible blooms, and magnificent interior salons.

Sacro Monte di Ossuccio
Located on the western shore of Lake Como, the Sacro Monte di Ossuccio has remarkable landscape value. The religious complex is positioned on a hill immediately behind the village of Ossuccio, facing Comacina Island, in a splendid panoramic position overlooking the lake. The Sacro Monte di Ossuccio is part of the 9 pre-Alpine Sacred Mountains included in the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 2003. It is the perfect location for a wonderful peaceful walk.

Greenway del Lario
The Lake Como Greenway extends for over 10 km and its route passes partly just above the villages and partly along the lakefront. Along the Greenway, you can discover the different souls of this territory: the historic villages, the rural views, the lake landscapes, the notable buildings and gardens.
It is not an isolated route, but a path that follows and develops on the existing network of connections. For this reason, it is possible both to walk it entirely in a single excursion, or to join the route at various intersection points with the road network and public services and therefore take multiple excursions of the different parts of the itinerary.

Sagra di San Giovanni
The Sagra di San Giovanni, celebrated every year on the last weekend of June on Lake Como, marks the true beginning of the Larian summer. Connected to the history of Comacina Island and the Larian territory, it commemorates the assault on the island during the war period with Barbarossa. Today the reenactment is pure spectacle, with fireworks that illuminate the entire Lake Como. The pyrotechnic show on Lake Como commemorates the fire that occurred in 1169 at the hands of the people of Como allied with Frederick Barbarossa in conflict with Milan. A true spectacle to admire from the shore or from the lake.
